13 Severely Underrated Horror Games You Must Play For Halloween

10. Silent Hill: Shattered Memories

Shattered Memories takes the premise of the original Silent Hill and reimagines it for a new generation. The words are the same, but the melody's a bit different - Harry Mason's search for his missing daughter is framed by a series of psychological tests which - depending on your responses - alter gameplay in a number of subtle (and not so subtle) ways. Whether it's tweaking enemies or redesigning characters, Shattered Memories makes it a point to mold the experience according to the player's choices, and this gives it an edge in terms of psychological depth. It's a very different kind of Silent Hill, but if you're willing to look past the complete lack of combat (as well the almost comically overdone chase sequences) it's easy to appreciate the ideas at play. Shattered Memories offers a unique twist on the traditional formula and weaves a surprisingly powerful tale of grief to boot.
