In mid-June, GTA V publisher Take-Two Interactive sent a cease-and-desist letter to Yuriy "Good-NDS" Krivoruchko, the creator of OpenIV, a modding tool typically used for the Grand Theft Auto franchise, citing that the software allowed players to tinker with GTA Online and harass other players.

The fan response was naturally ferocious, with GTA V's Steam page receiving a barrage of negative reviews, causing the consensus to turn to "Overwhelmingly Negative".

Thankfully Rockstar Games themselves eventually stepped in, convincing Take-Two to drop their aggressive pursuit of modders and ultimately giving OpenIV their blessing.

The only caveat was that the tools couldn't be used to create online hacks or make use of other licensed IPs. Though it's great that this was resolved relatively well in the end, it's a damn shame that a publisher that's made billions off GTA V felt the need to attack its own customers. It's not a good look.
