4. Microsoft Drops The Ball With Xbox One & Game Pass

Though Microsoft had arguably the strongest showing at this year's E3, that somehow didn't prevent them from failing to convincingly sell audiences on both the Xbox One platform and their Game Pass service.

For the Xbox One itself, the main issue was that the majority of the games showcased didn't require ownership of the console, either being third-party titles available elsewhere, or Microsoft Studios games available on PC through their Play Anywhere initiative.

Game Pass, meanwhile, has yet to live up to its clear potential, with E3 failing to shadow-drop a new game on the service or announce some enticing new releases. Though the subscription model could mean great things for Microsoft, at present the drip-freed of new games day-and-date just isn't enough to make it worthwhile to many.

It's easy to see how Microsoft might be accepting defeat this generation while preparing their armoury for next-gen, but considering the countless pro-consumer moves they've made in recent times, it's a shame they're not selling themselves a little more aggressively.
