2. Sony Locks Fortnite Accounts To PS4, Refuses Nintendo Switch Cross-Play

Almost immediately after Fortnite was released for the Nintendo Switch during E3 week, Sony caught a metric ton of flak from players infuriated that their existing Epic accounts were locked to the PS4 ecosystem and couldn't also be used on the Switch.

Given the progression associated with the accounts and Sony's lack of warning about this restriction, Fortnite fans quickly signed petitions and demanded answers from Sony, who in turn offered a rather unconvincing "we're looking into it" response.

Somewhat more predictably, PS4 Fortnite players also couldn't enjoy cross-platform play with Switch owners, just as the PS4 version also doesn't allow cross-play with the Xbox One.

Sony's unspoken perspective on the matter basically seems to be that because they're the winning horse in the race, they don't need to do their competitors any favours, even if it's ultimately gamers who suffer. Their "for the players" slogan couldn't seem much more ironic right now.

It's depressingly reminiscent of Sony's woefully complacent mindset going into the PS3 launch, which led to colossal humiliation and handed an easy lead to the Xbox 360 at the beginning of that generation.

If Sony continues to press on with anti-consumer measures like this, don't be surprised if the balance tips back towards Microsoft next generation.
