10. PUBG Sues Fortnite For Copyright Infringement

In a move that saw them wildly lambasted by gamers, PUBG Corporation opted to sue Epic Games Korea back in January, claiming that their Fortnite Battle Royale was infringing on the copyright of PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds.

Though the case was admittedly more complex than it first seemed - Epic assisted PUBG Corp. in the creation of Battlegrounds, for one - it did PUBG Corp. no favours in the court of public opinion to attack their primary rival, especially one whose popularity has quickly eclipsed PUBG itself.

While PUBG Corp. wasn't actually trying to stake a claim for ownership of the Battle Royale genre, that's the sentiment the lawsuit nevertheless struck with players, who largely sniffed at the prospect of the two games battling one another in court.

As it stands today, Fortnite has 125 million players and counting, while PUBG's concurrent player count continues to slump. The lawsuit wasn't really to blame, but it sure didn't help.
