10. Grim Fandango 2

Grim Fandango is one of the most acclaimed adventure games of the last 20 years, an artistic triumph from Tim Schafer that's quite like nothing else out there.

It was great to see the game given a shiny remaster in 2015, which caused many fans to hope that if it sold well, Shafer might get the green-light to develop his planned open-world, GTA-esque Grim Fandango sequel.

Any good sequel ups the scale of what came before, and this would certainly be a major expansion of scope.

Why It Will Never Happen: The remaster came out almost three years ago and word has been devilishly quiet about the series ever since, plus Schafer is kept plenty busy working on next year's Psychonauts 2.

While Shafer could turn to crowd-funding in an attempt to get Grim Fandango 2 made, given the game's proposed scale he'd also need additional investment from outside partners, as happened with Shenmue III. It's not happening.
