14 Beloved Video Games That Criminally Never Got Sequels

4. Chrono Trigger

No, Chrono Cross doesn't count as a sequel to the almighty Chrono Trigger. Developers Square have noted this too, saying that Chrono Cross was to only be associated with Trigger in terms of overall feel, rather than anything more in depth with regards to characters or plotlines. Thus the 1995 original stands alone as one of those times in gaming when a group of hugely influential figures all collaborated to produce one of the only real contenders to Final Fantasy's RPG crown. First up there's the creator of Final Fantasy himself Hironobu Sakaguchi (more of him later though), the Japan-surrendering Dragon Quest-head Yuji Horii, and Dragonball Z character-designer Akira Toriyama - the resultant combination of the three becoming to be known as "The Dream Team" by Square across development. For some reason even though all these components were most definitely in place nothing could content with the might of Final Fantasy, and even after part seven heralded in the Western love-in that still exists when mentioning those older titles, Chrono Trigger easily deserves a spot at the top too.
