4. Spider-Man & Venom: Maximum Carnage
Carrying on from the last entry's side scrolling beat 'em up ways, if TMNT was the kid's favourite, the Maximum Carnage is the comic book fan's favourite.
Carnage, in the universal rule of comic book logic, breaks free from containment and it's up to Spider-man and arch-enemy Venom to form an uneasy alliance to take out the rogue symbiote. Along the way, various Marvel heroes can be utilised as one-time "special items", as Carnage also has a ragtag bunch of villains aiding him.
Remaining true to its comic origins, the art style and presentation in MC was bright, colourful, and full of that brand of violence that even has the onomatopoeia when someone is smacked upside the head. Even the cutscenes are contextualised like pages in a graphic novel.
It did well enough to spawn a sequel in Separation Anxiety, which carried the same style over with it. But for a decent comic spin on the Streets of Rage formula, Maximum Carnage is the one to seek out.
