14 Best SNES Games You Might Have Missed

3. Sunset Riders

Tmnt Time
Konami

Konami really struck gold* when they ported the 1991 arcade classic to the SNES a few years down the line. Whilst the Megadrive version saw some drastic changes, the Nintendo version was largely untouched.

Minus a few regionalised/toned down changes, Sunset Riders was mostly faithful to its coin-op counterpart. It still retained the run and gun stylings across the levels, whether it be on foot, aboard a moving train or even on horseback. Featuring all four original characters and the different types of firearm they wield, it was a real hootenanny of how arcade fun could be replicated for the home console market.

Wild West shooters vary, but Sunset Riders was a new take on the run and gun at the time, with its only direct comparison/competition being Wild Guns. Whilst the latter has been Reloaded for the Switch, it seems Sunset Riders rode off into obscurity, never to be seen again.

*because cowboys love gold, obviously.
