14 Best SNES Games You Might Have Missed
8. Earthworm Jim 2
The first outing for our unlikeliest of heroes was a smash hit for Shiny when it launched in 1994. It spawned an equally popular TV show, and got the super spangly HD treated sixteen years later. But what about its sequel, which never gets the love it deserves?
Taking the original formula and adding a lick of paint, EWJ2 also pushed the boat out and added new guns and gameplay styles to the table. Some saw it as too much variety watering down the core game, but others revere it as much as the first outing.
As well as the run and gun platforming levels, the sequel added a few new takes of its own. Like saving Pete the Puppy's children from defenestration by Psy-crow from one side of the screen to the other, with a marshmallow. Or the isometric flying levels aboard Jim's pocket rocket to guide a bomb to take out Major Mucus. Or the...quiz show, where you're turned into a cave salamander.
It was as inherently wacky as a sequel should be...until Earthworm Jim 3D ruined it all.
