14 Controversial Video Game Moments That Pissed Off The Fanboys

5. The SimCity 2013 Disaster!

Reboots are hit and miss especially those for video game franchises. But it can seem like a win win if developers are trying to reinvigorate an already addicting series. That is as long as they deliver on what they originally advertised. Publisher EA and developer Maxis tried their luck with a SimCity reboot and boy was it a miss. Simply titled "SimCity," the latest installment to the popular city builder franchise was billed to be the most advanced with its computations thanks to the new GlassBox engine and EA's cloud server support. Unfortunately, those benefits were marred by restrictions. On one hand, there was the DRM policy that forced players to remain connected to the online cloud servers. On the other hand, those servers weren't being used to support in-game computations as previously advertised, but still suffered network outages due to the amount of people trying to log in on launch. Besides the restrictions, the reboot also suffered from atrocious bugs that really killed the experience. Although, developer Maxis managed to iron out most of these bugs, and even went as far to refund users affected, SimCity fans were left devastated from the aftermath.
