7. DmC's Dante Turns Emo!
Over time, video game characters go through changes here and there. It's not surprising that the designers need to make them stand out every now and then. But they still have to be careful with the direction they take or the character could be off-putting and even controversial to his/her own fan base. Take the new Dante from the recent DmC reboot for an example. Not only does the half demon, half human demon slayer ditch his trademark white hair for a shorter and darker look, he also skips several lunches to drop a few pounds off and even drops some of his years. But when it all comes together, it screams "Emo," and not everyone is pleased. In fact, DmC fans think this new Dante ruins the whole DmC experience, which is probably why the game wasn't much of a success. Still, the new Dante manages to retain all of his other badass characteristics needed to provide players with a solid and fun experience. But this incident proves that many gamers will simply judge a game by its cover.
