14 Fan-Made Sonic Games That Succeed Where Sega Failed

4. Freedom Planet

Think Spark looked good?

In Freedom Planet, you play as the dragon Lilac, the wildcat Carol, or basset hound Millia. Fully voice acted cutscenes carry the adventure mode, while those who aren't in for the story can play a classic mode with no cutscenes whatsoever.

Freedom Planet wears it's Sonic inspiration on it's sleeve, but the thrilling, fast-pace stages and innovative characters ensure it plays nothing like Sonic. Lilac whips her hair around to flutter and soar through the air, whilst Carol punches and can collect fuel canisters to race her motorbike through stages.

Freedom Planet is an utter blast to play. If you have any kind of interest in retro platformers (and if you don't, why would you read this list?), this is an absolute must-own.

A demo of the game is available for free at the game's official website, and the full game can be purchased on Steam or Wii U, with a PS4 release coming soon.
