Here's what you need to know about Titanfall 2, considering the original was such a damp squib:

It's fantastic.

Said damp squib-ness mainly came from it being associated with the godawful initial run of Xbox Ones, and Microsoft's cack-handed marketing push. Everything from the system to the Kinect and especially system exclusives suffered immeasurably by association, but you have to remember ex-Infinity Ward chaps Jason West and Vince Zampella (who helmed COD: Modern Warfare 1 AND 2, yes, those guys) are behind Titanfall 2, and they've upped the game considerably.

Playing it is just effortlessly engaging. A new grappling hook provides the last part of the movement puzzle, as added to wall-runs, boost-jumps and slides, you can now get across maps at lightspeed, blasting opponents in what ends up looking like a couple of armed-to-the-teeth Spider-Men going at one another.

The mechs are great fun, weapons punch holes in foes with the right amount of power, and they've added a full single player campaign to round out the package. We tend to think the FPS showdown of 2016 is only between COD and Battlefield, but Titanfall is already playing far better than the two combined.
