12. Dragon Age: Origins

11 Dragon Age Origins
BioWare

At one point during the long and winding main quest that makes up Dragon Age: Origins, your party is ambushed by demons and put under a spell that transfers them to the Fade, a dreamlike mystical afterlife that's central to much of the series' lore.

Travelling there for the first time, the Fade is home to the most weird and wonderful creatures of Bioware's entire franchise. As you struggle to find the rest of your squad, you're given a multitude of new powers to aid you in your desperate escape from the game's otherworldly labyrinth.

However, to make proceedings ever stranger, as you further your escape you're given glimpses into the psyche of your companions, delving into their most private fears and desires.

While the Fade became a more physical place in later games, the afterlife-like realm included in the original Dragon Age was something special, being presented in a particularly creepy and surrealist fashion.
