14 Most Insane Video Game Dream Sequences

11. Heavy Rain

Scarecrow Arkham Asylum
Quantum Dream

Madison Paige can't sleep. As she roams aimlessly around her empty apartment, engaging in pointless time-wasting tasks and trying to relax (just like everyone who's more awake than they should be in the dead of night), she suddenly finds herself under attack from a lurking intruder.

Being stalked from the shadows, Madison finds herself surrounded by two masked figures. Cornered and with nowhere to escape to its looks like her, as well as the player, is totally done for. That is, until the attackers lunge and Madison jolts awake, realising the home invasion was nothing but a terrible nightmare.

The suspenseful dream sequence in Heavy Rain works so well because with the game's constant twists and turns, something like this could genuinely happen at just about any moment in the title. Unfortunately, players saw the fake-out as simply a way for Quantum Dream to inject some much-needed action into an inherently slow-burning title, and thus the sequence isn't as fondly remembered as it perhaps should be.
