14 Most Insane Video Game Dream Sequences

9. Alan Wake

Alan Wake Dream
Remedy

In classic survival horror game fashion, the entire opening of Alan Wake serves as a terrifying, tone-setting dream sequence. More than that though, the opening to Remedy's Stephen King inspired game acts as a tutorial for everything to come.

The opening gives you control of Alan, fighting and running his way through an overwhelming amount of enemies, known in-game as the Taken, and foreshadowing future events long before the character really comes across any of them in the flesh.

Alan Wake's atmospheric intro works so well because it's through and through classic survival horror. By hearkening back to the likes of Silent Hill, Remedy is able to immediately set the tone for the game going forward, all the while scaring the living daylights out of the player in the process.
