MetaCritic Score: 91-95 What It Deserved: 76 Can a video game be at once one of the best games of the year and almost the most crushingly disappointing? There's little arguing that Metal Gear Solid V served up some of the most expertly-layered, intuitive and straight-up addictive gameplay of 2015: Snake has never played with more fluidity and freedom, but at the same time, the game still left so many MGS fans scratching their heads. For one, the lack of cut-scenes is a shame, albeit not a deal-breaker if the game still managed to convey a tightly-woven, appropriately insane story. Sadly not, though: the narrative took a major backseat to the gameplay here, with morsels being drip-fed to the player throughout, and then the game ending on an incomplete note, with major portions of the story blatantly being left unfinished due to time constraints. Then there's the depressingly samey missions, the eye-rollingly sexist depiction of Quiet, the fact that most of the boss battles are non-events that can be sidestepped entirely in some cases, and the insane plot twist that enraged as many as it satisfied. It's all the more disappointing considering that Kojima and Konami have now parted ways, so this is likely how the MGS story ends...at least until Konami tries to milk it without Kojima's presence. Tragic. Which 2015 video games did you find the most overrated? Shout them out in the comments!
