14 Most Underrated Open-World Games Of The Last 10 Years
2. Mad Max
Not only one of the most underrated open world games of the past ten years, but quite simply one of the best open world games ever, Mad Max is an essential purchase for any fan of the series. Absolutely nailing the atmosphere of the movies, this post-apocalyptic sandbox game uses its source material to deliver a cohesive and engaging third-person survival experience.
Baked into a surprisingly varied and often beautiful wasteland, Mad Max doesn't offer much that's new in terns of mission objectives or activities - in that you'll be seeing your fair share of raider camps and collectables - but unlike other titles on this list it makes this busywork feel worthwhile.
This is partly down to an engrossing salvaging system that has you upgrading your car, character and weapons in a way that allows surviving in the harsh wasteland to be that little bit easier. It's all familiar stuff, but there's just enough content to focus on that you never feel overwhelmed, ensuring that every little thing you do contributes to a rewarding sense of progression.
Plus it helps that the title's core brawling system is bloody satisfying too, letting you feel the weight of every bone Max cracks and every headshot he pulls off.
