14 Nightmarish Resident Evil Monsters

Besides being widely considered the best game in the series for its gameplay overhaul, Resident Evil 4 was also a breath of fresh air tonally. Essentially a side-story, the game didn’t need to concern itself too much with the wider Resident Evil lore (which was indecipherable by 2004).

And this narrative freedom meant all new monsters to terrify us and Leon Kennedy with.

The most intimidating example was reserved till the final third of the game, just when players felt they’d seen everything there was to offer.

You’ll hear the Regenerators before you see them, their signature raspy uneven breathing audible before they round the corner and shamble towards you.

The Regenerators are tall grey-skinned humanoids that are capable of absorbing huge amounts of damage. The Regenerator will regenerate (Resident Evil has very straightforward naming conventions) any lost limbs after a short time; this is for the best because if you shoot off a Regenerator’s legs they move far more quickly, rapidly squirming over the floor and launching themselves at the player hoping to clamp their jaws around them.
