6. William Birkin

As the main antagonist of Resident Evil 2 and creator of the G-Virus, William Birkin has a prominent place in the Resi mythos. Similar to the franchise’s other human villains, he winds up transforming into a repulsive mess of tentacles and eyes-where-there-shouldn’t-be-eyes, but what separates Birkin from others like Albert Wesker is the drawn out, and apparently painful transformation that Birkin undergoes.

Throughout RE2 we see Birkin in a constant state of mutation. Every time we encounter him, he’s changed, becoming less human each time.

The most upsetting is the middle phase: Birkin’s face shifts down to his chest to make room for his brand-new monster head which sprouts out to replace the old.

Birkin’s mental change is also troubling; even when Birkin goes full monster he seems to retain some intelligence and at least remembers his daughter, Sherry, but his mind has twisted their relationship into something sinister and he is compelled to pursue her throughout Raccoon City.
