14 Nightmarish Resident Evil Monsters

12. Drain Deimos

The insect-human hybrid is something that Umbrella seemingly had a special interest in with several specimens appearing throughout the games.

In Resident Evil 3, the Drain Deimos was a cockroach that had grown to the size of a human after exposure to the T-Virus and was the most notable new monster other than Nemesis himself.

“Deimos” is Latin for dread, and these things more than live up to the name.

Somewhat disappointingly in the recent remake, these monsters were relegated to a single sequence. That said, the set piece was executed brilliantly; the Drain Deimos was given a terrifying build-up and its introduction and was one of the game’s highlights.

In the original RE3, these monsters were both larger and more common, appearing all over Raccoon City (as you’d expect from a mutant cockroach). They ran wildly at the player in their strange shambling gait, desperate to lock their mandibles on Jill Valentine.
