10. Poliwag Is A Translucent Tadpole

What Is It?

Much like the Poliwag, the spiral pattern on the bodies of these Costa Rican tadpoles are actually their neatly coiled intestines, plus a nice up close view of their apparently sand-based diet.

Fun Fact:

There are lots of transparent animals in the world, but scientists can't yet agree as to why. Often it's thought to be a form of camouflage, but some think that the Glass Frog might actually have evolved to be transparent to help the function of their internal organs.
