14 Simple Things That Could Ruin The Biggest Upcoming Video Games
2. It's A Generic, Forgettable Sequel - Gears 5
Gears of War is a reliably slick, visually stunning third-person shooter franchise, but it's also been in a bit of a rut for quite some time, with Gears of War 4 suffering from a lack of fresh ideas and ultimately just feeling like your typical, run-of-the-mill sequel.
And from what we've seen of Gears 5 so far, it basically looks like more of the same.
Aside from the inspired decision to give the series its first female protagonist in Kait Diaz - an improvement over sentient block of wood J.D. Fenix - there's absolutely nothing remarkable about the extensive gameplay footage we've seen so far.
It looks glossy, sure, but the gameplay also seems completely boilerplate and totally unremarkable. While its availability on Xbox Game Pass will soften the blow somewhat, don't be surprised if Gears 5 comes and goes without much of a peep.
