13. Detroit: Become Human
Gorgeous graphics, some potentially cool thematics and all the subtlety of a ten-tonne wrecking ball barreling through your living room...
Yup, it's another David Cage game.
Sadly, although I personally adore Mr. Cage for putting his batsh*t ideas out there, he's two-nil down and only one up when it comes to how they pan out. Heavy Rain is easily his most accomplished work, while Indigo Prophecy and Beyond: Two Souls were absolute disasters.
Detroit: Become Human is Cage's attempt to delve into the nature of mass-manufactured consciousness and "What does it mean to be human?"/"Do humanoid robots deserve rights?"-type stuff. From what we've seen it's standard fare, though we are seeing this futuristic world through the eyes of three android protagonists: A police officer arresting his fellow "people", a house droid who realises she doesn't want to serve anymore, and a freedom fighting rebel-type who's trying to stage an uprising.
Gameplay includes a number of pretty intense confrontations and choices, but as always, it's all going to come down to Cage's script.
