14 Video Game Franchises That Will Never Die
2. Pokémon
A series which hasn't developed in any meaningful way in over two decades, Pokémon is very unlikely to change any time soon. For some, that's a blessing; the franchise offers a level of scope that few other games can match, and though it's been mechanised to death by its owners, the series has managed to hold onto a modicum of genuine charm and personality throughout all these long years.
Admittedly, it's had the benefit of a popular animé series behind it, keeping it relevant for gamers and non-gamers alike, but regardless, Pokémon will never die. The franchise is almost as much of a toyline as it is a collection of video games, and people will never not love toys. Pikachu plushes alone probably make more money for Nintendo than most of their standalone games.
