14 Video Games That Prove Local Multiplayer Is The Best

9. Worms: Armageddon

Worms was something of a phenomenon in the 1990s thanks to its deep, strategic gameplay and uniquely surreal, British humour. There's no other game where a worm can say something witty in a dodgy Yorkshire accent before pulling a sheep out of nowhere that has a cape and flies around everywhere before blowing a poor worm up. Brilliant stuff. Worms: Armageddon is arguably the best the series has to offer. Its weapons were even weirder (all hail the mighty concrete donkey!) and its gameplay felt the tightest. It holds a place in the hearts of many 90s gamers, giving them fond memories of annoying their friends immensely with their stupidly impressive ninja rope skills that they could use to get from one side of the map to the other in a single turn. There's simply no way of escaping a pesky worm-ninja. Let's just hope they never cross-breed in real life or we'll all be doomed. Doomed! Worms is a nostalgic title for many, as it and similar wonderfully weird games like Lemmings have since faded into relative obscurity. It's a game that you can play online, but the vast majority that played it as kids did so locally and that's how it's going to stay. It's a social game where you pass the controller around, give your team and worms silly names and take turns in participating in the weirdest, cutest war ever.

When I'm not playing games, I'm probably either writing about them somewhere or singing stupid songs inspired by them. Or eating pizza.
