14 Video Games That Prove Local Multiplayer Is The Best

8. Nintendo Land

Nintendo Land is a bit of a strange beast. Some of its 'attractions' like the Dancing Octopus are downright awful, while others like Mario Chase and Luigi's Ghost Hunt offer revolutionary local multiplayer that's never been done before. It's not consistent in its quality, but Nintendo Land has two wonderful mini-games that people will most likely be digging out and playing at gatherings for years. Let's begin with Mario Chase, which is essentially Nintendo's version of hide and seek. One person plays using the GamePad and has ten seconds to dash off and hide from the seekers, who are playing using Wii remotes and the television. The hider can see all of the seeker's locations on the GamePad, while the seekers have to hunt him down armed only with their eyes and a Wii remote. It's such a simple concept that uses the GamePad in a better way than the majority of games on the system. Luigi's Ghost Hunt works in a similar way: the GamePad player controls a ghost that's completely invisible on the TV and has to catch the other players, who are armed with torches that can be used to hurt him and make him visible for a brief period. Better not use them a lot, however as their batteries run out pretty quickly! Both of these games use the GamePad in brilliant ways as a second screen and prove that there's always ways to make old concepts like local multiplayer feel new and fresh.

When I'm not playing games, I'm probably either writing about them somewhere or singing stupid songs inspired by them. Or eating pizza.
