The addition of some harpoons on your ship makes grabbing loot from islands or floating in the water even more continent. Why ferry everything to the ship one at a time when you can simply pull the treasure straight towards you without leaving the comfort and relative safety of your ship? It'll save your crew heaps of time and have you sailing off to your next voyage faster.

Be warned, though. There are some hazards that come with this method collecting loot, primarily in the form of accidentally grappling a volatile gunpowder barrel. This list has already highlighted the dangers that come with having explosives aboard your ship in the first place, but harpooning a keg comes at its own risk.

If the gunpowder barrel touches your ship as it’s being harpooned, the game will register this as its hit box colliding with your ship’s. The result is the barrel exploding, with you, being in point-blank range, likely being killed.

If there’s a surviving crew mate nearby, they can potentially save the ship before it sinks. However, this isn’t always the case and that keg you accidentally collected in the water could be the end of your voyage.
