5. Castle Of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse

It's easy to forget that Castle Of Illusion was pretty much the breakout title for the Sega Megadrive. Released a whole year before a certain blue hedgehog became the face of this console, Mickey held the fate of the console on his meager shoulders, in a game that remains a favorite with many.

Like the Nintendo offerings Disney had been manufacturing before it, Castle Of Illusion is an out and out platformer, where Mickey has to wander around a witch's stronghold, bouncing on enemies heads, dodging traps and ducking his way through some boss battles. Armed only with a comical midair bounce attack, the game was difficult enough to merit having a condensed easy mode.

But the game's difficulty curve didn't deter people from playing it in droves, with new audiences recently introduced to it by way of a shiny remaster in 2013.

Epic.
