15 Best Multiplayer Maps In Gaming History Ranked
7. Facility - GoldenEye
Some maps are just made for split-screen. GoldenEye is a rare instance where the video game adaptation holds a greater place in artistic history than the actual film. Sure, the movie revitalized the Bond franchise and made Pierce Brosnan a household name, but the game proved that consoles could handle good first person shooters.
The funny thing about GoldenEye's multiplayer being so revolutionary was that it was an afterthought that some of the higher-ups weren't even made aware of. Nowhere is this more evident than in the game's best multiplayer map, Facility, which is just the single player map but with 4 shooters running around it.
The map may have been immense, but its corridors were tight, making proximity mines the difference maker in many encounters. Thanks to GoldenEye's flexibility for game modes, like golden-gun or flag tag, along with a laundry list of different weapons to litter the map with, Facility can be played hundreds of different times and provide a unique experience each round.
Nostalgia for this game and this map still persists, with fans doing as much as they can to experience the magic again, whether that be playing it online with fan-made mod, GoldenEye: Source, using an N64 emulator, or playing Activision's 2010 remake.
