15 Best Open-World Video Games Of The Decade (So Far)
14. Darksiders II
Easily one of the most criminally overlooked titles of all time thanks to THQ's demise dominating headlines and convincing people anything with their name on wouldn't be worth the time, Darksiders 2 capitalised on God of War's combat system with more Metroidvania exploration and a ludicrously expansive loot system to boot. If you were looking for a series doth'd in gothic architecture, serious ethereal tone and instant accessibility like the Legacy of Kain games of old, it's this. Combat is far more in-depth than Kratos' adventures, with every animation feeling fluid and responsive. Going from brawling to leaping up the sides of towers and ruined cityscapes is a joy, and it only gets better the more you get sucked into a rewarding loop of gear-drops, ability unlocks and items that flesh out every part of the world ahead. Darksiders is about to get a re-release on PS4, which with any luck will mean some revitalised PR surrounding its existence, as considering it has a perfect mix of RPG elements alongside third-person hack n' slash combat, more exposure is something it truly deserves.
