15 Best PS1 & PS2 Survival Horror Video Games
8. Clock Tower 3
A massive departure from the original point and click Clock Tower games, the third game chose the third person adventure instead. Overseen by Battle Royale (the film, not the free-for-all genre) director Kinji Fukasaku, CT3 is a more survival-focused affair that its puzzle orientated predecessors.
The story itself is a bit loopy in its premise: 14 year old protagonist Alyssa Hamilton discovers she's part of a lineage of time travelling spirit-battling warriors, as she is sent from 2003 to the 1940's, and 60's, to battle evil entities. Armed with bottle of holy water, gameplay was geared more towards chase and hide than stand and fight.
That is, until the end of each mission, and your holy water would transform in a crossbow to take out the monster-of-the-week mission entity. It was a juxtaposing change to the format, that became a bit repetitive each time around.
Whilst by no means the best entry on this list, Clock Tower 3's departure from its original gameplay at least tried something different, which meant polarising reviews and lack of commercial success on release.
