2. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
Much like Fallout 3 and New Vegas injected some life into the sci-fi setting of RPG's, Skyrim did so for the fantasy stylings...and then some. Akin to Resident Evil 4 in terms of being ported and remastered several times, more content is still provided thanks to a thriving modding community, even on consoles.
So, why does Skyrim enjoy so much praise, some eight years on from its initial release? How are people able to look through such a bug-ridden mess on launch?
Purely because Skyrim offered a massive scope on what could be done at the time. Sure, it was buggy, but the exponential hidden within far outweighed that. Here was a game with near limitless potential, however you wanted to play.
You could be the stalwart Dragonborn hero and save the land, or you could shout old ladies off of cliffs. You can even turn your hand at being a homeowner, or if that doesn't appeal, a member of the vampire community, just to spice things up.
