9. Divinity: Original Sin
Much like Pillars of Eternity, Divinity is another great example of a Kickstarter done right. It's reassuring that the commitment people pledge into pays off, with Divinity being proof of that.
Also played in an isometric perspective, Divinity swaps of real time combat in favour of turn based, much like the old Front Mission and Final Fantasy Tactics games. This adds some nostalgic strategy to the genre, instead of the World of Warcraft traits of clicking at things repeatedly until they die method.
It also subverted the RPG story tropes, in that magic is bad, and must be eradicated at the Source. Hence, you and your potential co-op partner are Source Hunters, making it your duty to restore normality to the land by defeating those that abuse magic.
It takes the usual standard of being the beholder of all things powerful and turning it on its head, which was something new in 2013. It also wasn't an easy game, which many praised for not holding the players hand as they progressed.
