5. The Last Of Us - Naughty Dog

The Last of Us is part stealth, part survival horror with an extremely engaging story, placing players into the muddy, bloody shoes of Joel as he protects Ellie from the horrors of a post-apocalyptic, fungal wasteland.

In true survival horror fashion, you scour the many areas for ammo, tools and materials to replenish your guns and to craft explosives and healing items.

The Last of Us not only nails the story, it also nails two types of gameplay approaches:

When stealth is called upon, it plays well; Ellie never compromises you, if you throw something you can distract a Clicker, if you make too much noise, fairly and justifiably so, you're screwed and will be killed instantly, properly showcasing an infection to be a major threat as it would be.

And when it calls for a firefight, going around and blasting people and creatures with a shotgun, a rifle or even a flamethrower plays just as effectively, without one option feeling like the overpowered, easy choice.
