This 2013 reboot sought to revitalise the Tomb Raider franchise, have people take it more seriously and care for Lara Croft: the person, rather than Lara Croft: the pair of breasts on legs.

It worked, the reboot bringing Croft back to when she was first starting out, an interesting narrative to accompany the gameplay where she's first finding her feet as a treasure hunter, questionable archaeologist and survivalist.

She was young, weak and in need of help, our help, the player's help.

Along with the rebirth of Lara as a character, was the transition in tone, which was more gritty, and the new shooting mechanics. Gone were the fiddly aiming and auto-aiming of Tomb Raider: Legend and the PS1 originals. In, was the smooth, satisfactory and simple shooting of Tomb Raider 2013, along with an intuitive upgrade and crafting system.
