15 Biggest WTF Moments In The Witcher Trilogy
8. Not The Eyes!
The Witcher games never shy away from violence and bloodshed, featuring, among other things, beheadings, burnings, impalements, and the overall mistreatment of the poor and underprivileged common folk. But no matter how many of these violent actions you are exposed to, some of them are so cringe-inducing that it sends a shiver down your spine.
In The Witcher 2, the conniving sorceress Philippa Eilhart is the victim of one such act of violence. After being arrested and thrown in a dungeon, King Radovid pays her a visit, in which she pleads for him to free her. Radovid reveals his knowledge of the Lodge of Sorceresses and their conspiracy, and as punishment for her betrayal he spoons both of her eyes out, leaving her blind and bloody on the floor of her cell.
You are thankfully spared the gory details of this torture, but the sounds and Philippa’s screams of agony are more than enough to make you squirm. Sure, she and Geralt aren’t exactly the closest of allies, but it’s still hard not to sympathize with her. It’s so brutal, blunt, and personal, and that’s what makes this particular act of sadism hit so hard.
