15 Famous Video Game Tattoos (And What They Actually Mean)

9. Tai Kaliso - Gears Of War

In a game packed with more meatheads than a McDonald's abattoir, Tai Kaliso stands tall among them, while also not being averse to the occasional words of wisdom. Inspired by New Zealand's Maori tribes, Kaliso is a warrior among soldiers, and his distinct tribal tattoos attest to that. The neo-tribal tats adorning Kaliso are called Bakuaia, which are prevalent among the tribal people of Irohma - an island people whose heritage is tied up in war, honour and fearlessness, even more than the surrounding war-torn island cultures it accompanies. Kaliso's markings are designed to make him look like a menace in battle. Unfortunately for big Tai, his battles were against the extra-terrestrial Locust Horde, on whom the intimidating cultural connotations of his tats were probably all but lost. Nothing worse than a tattoo that's not appreciated by those it was designed to impress - like that time my ex-girlfriend laughed at me when I got her name tattooed under my nipple.
