15 Greatest Ever Video Game Anti-Heroes
8. Kratos - God Of War
Greek Gods are fairly well known for not being the friendliest of fellows - they are reasonably likely to react to the smallest of offences by destroying entire cities - and Kratos is no exception.
Kratos can feel vilified in waging a full-blown war against the Gods, since Ares had him kill his own wife and daughter, but this was as a result of his total loss of humanity and mindless slaughter of innocents in the name of the God of War himself. Kratos' mother and brother were also killed due to the meddling of the Gods, and after refusing to swear undying fielty to his father, Zeus, he is impaled on the Blade of Olympus and banished to the Underworld.
What a family.
Kratos partakes in the senseless murder of many innocents on his journeys. He allows a ship captain to fall into the throat of the hydra and die, lets Poseidon's Princess to be violently crushed in a crank shaft minutes after freeing her from captivity, and sacrifices many followers in order to solve puzzles.
After exacting his revenge on the Gods, Kratos moves to the Nordic land of Midgard, where he fathers a boy named Atreus. He teaches Atreus many things, teaching him skills and important lessons when interacting with the mythical lands they travel, and there seems to be a key theme behind many of these lessons: don't be like Kratos.
