Bioware's massively popular sci-fi series Mass Effect has always looked great but the sequel took a noticeable turn towards the cinematic. The action grew bigger and more explosive, thanks to the streamlined combat and the bigger focus on dramatic set-pieces and moments. It starts off with a huge bang too. The first segment of the game sees you reunited with Commander Shephard as he patrols a planet on the hunt for the Geth. Suddenly, a mysterious ship appears from out of nowhere and decimates the defences of the Normandy (Shephard's signature vessel), sending it to its doom. Not only is the actual impact impressive but Shephard's first actions as the Normandy goes down is to save as many of his crew as possible. He even sacrifices his own life to get Joker, the ship's pilot, onto the final rescue pod. In one fell swoop, Bioware destroyed a fan favourite ship and killed off the central hero - a pretty impressive way to start a sequel.
I have an addiction to achievements, a craving for new bands and a dream to become Captain America. I once finished second in a Mario Kart 7 tournament so I'm kind of a big deal.
