14. The Sims 3
Sometimes in games, you are taken through an emotional story, watching death and chaos around you. Sometimes, you watch destruction on a simply insane scale - or you can just play The Sims. On paper, this series shouldnt have worked. Many games involve some form of escapism from the banality of the everyday, but Maxis developed an experience that was exactly that. You start off creating your family, choosing your home, then living an assortment of lives within. Take them through school, get them into a job, continue their careers, let them have kids, and start all over again. There is no goal in the Sims, except the goals your create yourself. You rush around to meet your Sims needs and wants and generally help them through their lives. Or you can put them on auto, and see how your dream/nightmare household works without divine intervention. What the critics say: Gamespot: 9/10 IGN: 8.9/10 Steam User Reviews: Very Positive (86% Positive) Metacritic: 9/10
