15 Hilarious Voice Acting Fails In Horror Video Games

13. Dead Island: Riptide

Michigan: Report From Hell
Deep Silver

Dead Island: Riptide is the follow-up to the 2011 zombie shooter but failed to impress players due to being an expansion rather than a true sequel. While the game reused a lot of elements from its predecessor, Dead Island, the voice acting got a lot worse.

An example of these poor performances can be found near the end of Riptide. When the survivors attempt to board a helicopter, they are stopped by Frank Serpo who only wants to bring in the immune. This leads to an argument between Serpo and our heroes including Sam Hardy.

But what was intended to be an intense sequence becomes an epic fail due to the performances of the VAs. The characters fail to convey a sense of urgency despite the high stakes set up by this scene.

One of the protagonists, Purna Jackson, even speaks with her room-level voice despite having a helicopter hovering above her. It makes you wonder how the people inside the chopper can even hear her.

With quality like this, it's no wonder that Riptide never got the same love as Dead Island did from the fanbase.
