15 Iconic Video Games That Almost Turned Out Completely Different

10. Croc Started Life As Yoshi In The First Ever 3D Platformer

Speaking of Mario 64, gaming legend essentially dictates that it was Nintendo's platformer that forever altered gaming's path. However that's not exactly true, because before the House of N had even though of such an idea, it was presented to them fully-formed by Argonaut Games, who pitched the idea of a 3D platformer and asked if they could use the Yoshi character as their star. Nintendo refused, wanting to hold onto their first-party characters, but went ahead and copied the idea anyway which resulted in Mario 64 as Sony picked up Argonaut and created the Croc franchise. Creator Jez San mentioned in an interview with Examiner, "Miyamoto-san came up to me at a show afterwards and apologised for not doing the Yoshi game with us, thanked us for the idea to do a 3D platform game. He also said that we would make enough royalties from our existing deal to make up for it." Pretty shady goings on, and the 'Hey but you'll be alright, right?!' reassurance is a slap in the face. Put simply, where are Argonaut now?
