3. Assassin's Creed: Syndicate

Just like everyone else, the yearly (and sometimes completely broken) releases of Assassin's Creed instalments completely soured me on the franchise. Starting with the third main entry in the series, the stagnant gameplay, rejection of innovation and constant lack of polish continued to push players away from the series, to the point where Ubisoft has taken its cash-cow off the annual schedule entirely.

But the biggest casualty of this whole decline was the surprisingly solid return to form, Assassin's Creed: Syndicate. Buried amongst a list of more popular triple-A games, Syndicate beautifully brought Victorian London to life in an epic industrial gangster take on the franchise, and yet was utterly overlooked by both fans and critics alike.

Even though it didn't add anything particularly new, the latest Assassin's Creed release was more polished than the titles that launched before it, offering one final hurrah for the series as we know it.

So although you might feel a bit dejected after suffering through hot messes like 2014's Unity, Assassin's Creed: Syndicate might just be the one entry in Ubisoft's fledgling franchise that deserves to be revisited.
