15 Misleading Video Game Trailers That Totally Lied To You

5. Dead Island

How could a list about misleading trailers not include the now infamous zombie survival bait-and-switch reveal of Dead Island? An incredibly artistic and emotional CG trailer managed to get everyone hyped for an otherwise unknown game at the time, and it still stands today as one of the most iconic trailers ever made. It's a shame then, that the tone of the actual game was the exact opposite of that which got everyone talking. See, Dead Island was a game less concerned with creating emotional moments and more with creating swords that set on fire and/or shot electricity from their tips. While the trailer managed to show that the game was set in a tropical holiday resort, that was the only thing it managed to display accurately about the final release. Instead of an emotional story, gamers were instead treated to a slightly above-average title that featured more than a handful of racist stereotypes disguised as characters - something the trailer handily left out. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lZqrG1bdGtg
