15 Misleading Video Game Trailers That Totally Lied To You

4. Brutal Legend

Double Fine's Brutal Legend - advertised as a €œheavy metal hack-and-slasher€ - had trailers that showcased a fun, unique and fast-paced action game that even had Jack Black voicing the main character €“ how could you go wrong? Well, how about say, completely switching out the combat style of your game purely for the promotional material so that gamers would be fooled into thinking the title played like something it wasn't? The trailers leading up to Brutal Legend's release, hell, even the game's demo, all presented it as a combo-heavy hack-and-slasher, when in reality it actually leant far more towards an RTS structure €“ yet if you were following Brutal Legend up until release you had no idea. Afraid that a title designed around RTS mechanics wouldn't sell, the game's publisher Vivendi Games refused to use this accurate description of the game in their marketing material. Not once did the publisher let-on about the true nature of the game and they even constructed the demo to essentially fool players into thinking the title played completely different to how it actually did. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zxnho1yTjRo
