15 Misleading Video Game Trailers That Totally Lied To You
3. Microsoft's Kinect/Milo
It's hard to remember a time before Microsoft's Kinect wasn't the laughing stock of the gaming industry it is today. Believe it or not, at one point in time the then-titled Project Natal was seen to be the next evolution in gaming. Hyped up by industry insiders including Peter Molyneux, the original Kinect presented itself as a responsive, innovative, and futuristic piece of gaming tech. All until anyone actually got a chance to try it out, of course. As soon as the public got their hands on the peripheral at pre-release events, the atmosphere surrounding the Kinect plummeted from being cautiously optimistic to a general opinion of aggressive disappointment. Not only was the thing totally unresponsive, but it was missing key features previously boasted about in the trailers - cool ideas like the ability to scan something like a skateboard into a game were nowhere to be found. Even worse, Microsoft had a chance to sway public opinion with the Kinect 2.0, but even then managed to repeat the same mistakes of the original. Just check out this ludicrous tech demo to get an immediate sense of just how much Microsoft and all those involved were overshooting their mark. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uieh3RfkCng
