Given Assassin's Creed's massive status in the gaming industry it's safe to say the franchise has a pretty well-established set of tropes that each entry now sticks to - at this point everyone knows each game will be set in an iconic historical setting with a few quirky sci-fi aspects thrown in for good measure. However, trailers leading up to the original title's release swept the sci-fi aspect of the game entirely under the rug. There were a few hints here and there in the form of glimmering hidden Animus glitches, but gamers were never told what these €œglitches€ signified until they got their hands on the final game. Those hoping for a thoroughly authentic history-fuelled adventure were quite rightly surprised when Assassin's Creed actually opened its game by diving head-first into sci-fi jargon.
