4. Race Driver (TOCA)
Where to start? Race Driver: GRID
If you had a PS1, I'd bet you were hoovering up driving games like nobody's business. Gran Turismo, Colin McRae, Destruction Derby - and TOCA; the bulkier brethren of something like GT that put all its money into perfecting the physics of barrelling around courses in touring cars.
After making the leap to next gen systems, Codemasters restyled the franchise into Race Driver, but kept their proficient driving engine. Graphics too were given a full makeover, emerging as one of the best-looking titles on the last generation.
Sadly, despite being one hell of a robust package with the looks to turn heads, Race Driver was never able to hold the same company as Gran Turismo or even Project Gotham Racing, and once Forza overtook even those as the go-to racing game of choice, there was just no love left.
Not back then, anyway...
